HYDRAULIC METAL SPINNING Large or difficult jobs may be handled on one of our hydraulic spinning lathes. Hydraulic spinning is available in all sizes and shapes up to 2M diameter in all metals and guages up to 10mm steel - 6mm stainless steel. Examples of work undertaken includes dished and tank ends, flanges and cones. Stock tooling is also available on site. |

HAND METAL SPINNING We undertake hand spinning on a daily basis and have a large number of hand spinning machines which are regularly updated. Experienced operatives are able to work on components of varying sizes and materials to acheive the required item and or finish. With access to many hand spinning machines, we are able to undertake large volumes of work and meet tight deadlines. Hand spinning also offer the oppertunity to turn aroundshort run one-off jobs for rapid prototyping. The Winward Company specializes in the art and craft of high quality hand metal spinning. |

The craft of manual hand spinning has been perpetuated through the ages up to the present day. The first modern manual spinning machines were developed in the 1930's. Hand metal spinning offers several advantages over CNC spinning. Specifically hand metal spinning affords quicker set up which reduces the cost of small production runs. Additionally, it is performed by “craftsmen” which allows for better control of wall thickness and improves overall dimensional stability. |

LASER CUTTING Winwards' laser cutting abilities give you the oppertunity to realise the designs you have in place or on the drawing board. With the capability of laser cutting most materials, including, steel, stainless steel, titanium, glass and some woods. Using this fascility Winward produce presision components at a very competetive rate. Our in house design capabilities mean that we can produce the CAD drawings that your designs and components may require. Alternatively you may prefer to supply us with your own drawing files which we can then transfer to the laser cutter. |

PRESSING With a large quantity of pressing equipment, Winward are well equipped to undertake significant presswork. Trained operatives are able to work with a wide range of materials to produce a diverse variety of formed finished products. In addition to our hand and special presses we have a number of double and single action power presses which operate and press up to 100 tons. |

FINISHING Powder Coating. We are able to undertake specialist powder coatingon our own premises. With experienced staff and state of the art equipment we currently powder coat a wide range of components with individual variety of coatings. Amongst others, below are listed finishes we also provide. Lacquering, Polishing, Anodising and Diamond Cutting |
| Why powder coating then?... | |
![]() |
Over the past decade powder coating has been increasingly accepted as the preferred finishing process for the future. The reasons for this conversion from wet to dry can be attributed to three major forces: economy the high cost of energy and materials require a more cost effective and less wasteful process; excellence for consumers, and other end users, are demanding higher quality and more durable finishes; and ecology — progressively more stringent regulations are being aggressively enforced in an effort to control air pollution and hazardous waste disposal. Which in turn goes back to economy. The cost of complying with the Regulations and the disposal of toxic and flammable waste are constantly rising. |
| What is powder coating then?... | |
Powder is a dry coating. Instead of being dissolved or suspended in a liquid medium, such as solvent or water, powder is applied in a granular form. This material is finer than ground pepper but coarser than flour, and is applied directly to the surface to be coated. The powder is created by blending the various components (binders, resins, pigments, fillers and additives) and processing them through an extruder into a continuous mass. This homo-genous mass is cooled and broken into small chips, which are then ground into the powder. Each powder particle contains within it the necessary components for reforming into the finished coating. After the powder is applied to the part, typically using an electrostatic spray process, the part passes through an oven and cures, melting into a smooth film on the surface of the part. |

FABRICATION Winward undertake many forms of fabrication including welding, sheet forming, piercing, plunging, tapping, brasing and cutting on a daily basis. With over 60 years of skills and knowledge we can offer this to you at your disposal. |
|
OTHER CAPABILITIES We are also able to undertake circle cutting up to 3M (9'), blanking, shearing, cropping, tool turning, tube bending and guillotine work. We stock a comprehensive range of tools which with our other fascilities enables us to produce prototype and experimental work to customers own requirements. We can machine finish many different spinnings to tight tolerances both in large and small quantities. |
