OUR ZIRCONIUM CRUCIBLES
QUALITY
All of our crucibles are made to order using our ISO 9001 certified managment system. Prior to despatch, every crucible goes through extensive quality checks to ensure that you are getting the most from every crucible.
COMPETITIVE
We have been manufacturing zirconium crucibles for well over 40 years. Throughout this time, we have developed, researched and perfected our processes to ensure that we provide an internationally competitive price, with exceptional service.
EFFECTIVE
Zirconium exhibits excellent corrosion resistance and averages around 100 fusions per crucible, making them the most cost effective crucible (per fusion) compared to rival materials such as Nickel, Iron, Platinum, Porcelain and Glass.

Zirconium Crucibles - Extremely Corrosion Resistant Metal

Zirconium Crucibles -  Made in the UK

Our factory is located at the heart of the UK in Aldridge, Walsall. We are just 10 minutes away from the M6 and 30 minutes away from Birmingham, giving us an ideal location to serve both UK and international customers.

Zirconium crucible recycling

Zirconium Crucible Reclaim & Recycle Scheme

To meet the growing requests from our customers, in 2025 we introduced a reclaim and recycling scheme for our Zirconium Crucibles. We offer to buy back used crucibles and recycle them with our already established refiners, who then use the material as additions to ‘Master Alloy’ production, extending the life cycle of the zirconium.

Zirconium Crucibles

Advantages
Zirconium metal is a most effective all-round crucible for fusions using sodium carbonate or sodium peroxide and is an excellent low-cost replacement for platinum crucibles. Based on an average of 100 fusions per crucible, zirconium is more cost-effective than less expensive crucibles of porcelain or steel.
Sudden contact with cold, metallic surfaces will have no deleterious effects.
These crucibles maintain their strength and integrity at high temperatures, providing stability in thermal processes.
Zirconium crucibles are chemically inert, which means they do not react with most molten metals, ceramics, or other materials being processed. This is crucial in applications where contamination must be avoided
No specialised tongs or triangles are required for handling hot zirconium crucibles (unlike platinum).
The mechanical properties of zirconium, such as its toughness and resistance to mechanical wear, contribute to the durability and long lifespan of zirconium crucibles.
Zirconium has a relatively low coefficient of thermal expansion, reducing the risk of cracking under rapid temperature changes
Zirconium crucibles are especially adaptable to the needs of the analytical chemistry laboratory, such as in strong alkaline fusions employed to reduce refractory samples to a soluble form, and for high temperature ignition ashing purposes
Disadvantages
It is no secret that zirconium crucibles cost more than porcelain, steel or nickel. But, based on an average number of fusions which can be made in a zirconium crucible (100), as opposed to those of nickel (5), zirconium is much more-cost effective and sustainable.
You can never use a muffle furnace with zirconium unless a blanket of inert gas such as argon or helium is also used.
Never exceed 900°C in air or zirconium crucibles will enlarge and oxidise (turn pinkish white).
Hydrofluoric acid cannot be used to clean zirconium crucibles.
