Dished End Specialists UK

Winward Engineering is a long-established UK manufacturer of dished ends and formed components. Using a combination of metal spinning (spin forming) and metal pressing (dishing), we support customers across architecture, lighting, food and drink equipment and general engineering, producing parts from standard profiles through to fully bespoke drawings and specifications.

ISO 9001 certification supports controlled manufacture, inspection and full material traceability. From one-offs and prototypes through to scheduled long-run production, we deliver consistent, repeatable dished ends in stainless steel, carbon steel, copper, brass and specialist alloys, with in-house tooling support.

Metals we work with

Explore the wide range of metals that we work with to meet your unique manufacturing needs:

Carbon Steel Dished Ends

Our carbon steel (mild steel) dished ends are manufactured in the UK at Winward using a combination of metal spinning (spin forming or flanging) and metal pressing (dishing or deep drawing), so we can cover everything from standard profiles to made-to-drawing parts. Carbon steel is typically specified where strength, durability and cost-effectiveness matter, such as storage tanks and industrial fabrications, machinery housings and covers, and general engineering assemblies. We can spin parts up to 3,200 mm diameter and, subject to grade and design, up to 12 mm steel, with optional secondary processes including coating or finishing specified to suit the application. ISO 9001:2015 certified processes support controlled inspection and full material traceability for repeatable production.

Stainless Steel Dished Ends

Our stainless steel dished ends are manufactured in the UK at Winward using a combination of metal spinning (spin forming or flanging) and metal pressing (dishing or deep drawing), so we can cover everything from standard profiles to made-to-drawing parts. Stainless is typically specified where corrosion resistance, cleanliness, and appearance matter, such as food and drink equipment (tank ends and processing vessels), architectural features, and general engineering assemblies. We can spin parts up to 3,200 mm diameter and, subject to grade and design, up to 8 mm stainless, with in-house polishing available from satin to mirror finishes. ISO 9001:2015 certified processes support controlled inspection and full material traceability for repeatable production.

Aluminium Dished Ends

Our aluminium dished ends are manufactured at Winward in the UK using a combination of metal spinning (spin forming or flanging) and metal pressing (dishing or deep drawing), giving lightweight end closures and domes for applications such as architectural features, lighting components, and general engineering housings and covers. We can spin components up to 3,200 mm diameter and, subject to grade and design, up to 20 mm aluminium, with anodising available where a durable, corrosion-resistant finish or colour is required.

Copper Dished Ends

Our copper dished ends are manufactured in the UK at Winward using a combination of metal spinning (spin forming) and metal pressing (dishing or deep drawing), so we can supply standard profiles as well as parts made to your drawings and specifications. Typical uses include architectural copper work and decorative features, lighting components, and food and drink equipment where appearance and corrosion resistance matter. We can spin components up to 3,200 mm diameter, with ISO 9001 controlled inspection and full material traceability, plus in-house tooling support and polishing finishes from satin to mirror where required.

Specialist Alloy Dished Ends

Our specialist alloy dished ends are manufactured in the UK at Winward using a combination of metal spinning (spin forming or flanging) and metal pressing (dishing or deep drawing), so we can supply standard profiles as well as parts made to your drawings and specifications. We form a wide range of specialist metals and alloys, including titanium, Inconel, nickel alloys, tantalum and zirconium, for corrosion-resistant and high-temperature applications in chemical processing, scientific equipment and specialist industrial assemblies. We can spin components up to 3,200 mm diameter, with ISO 9001:2015 certification supporting consistent manufacture and full material traceability, plus in-house tooling support and polishing finishes from satin to bright mirror where required.

Welding & Fabrication for Dished Ends

We can supply dished ends as individual components or as welded sub-assemblies. Typical requirements include welding dished ends onto cylinders or shells, adding flanges, rings, bosses or simple brackets, plus trimming and edge preparation to support clean, consistent fit-up. Keeping forming, tooling support and fabrication under one roof helps reduce handling, rework and variation between batches, from prototypes through to scheduled production.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
What types of dished ends can you supply?
We manufacture standard-profile and bespoke dished ends, including made-to-drawing parts. We can also work from a sample or key dimensions if a drawing is not available, and advise the most suitable manufacturing route.
FAQ
How are your dished ends manufactured?
We use both metal spinning (spin forming/flanging) and metal pressing (dishing/deep drawing) to produce our dished ends. The best method depends on diameter, thickness, material, profile, and quantity. We select the route that gives the best repeatability and value for your requirements.
FAQ
What information do you need to quote?
Outside diameter, thickness, material grade, profile or depth, quantity, and edge condition (for example trimmed, straight flange, formed edge, weld prep). A drawing is ideal, but photos, a sketch, or a sample plus key dimensions also works. You should also inform us of any critical tolerances or finish requirements.
FAQ
What sizes, thicknesses and materials can you produce?
We can spin parts up to 3,200 mm diameter. Typical thickness limits (subject to grade and design) are up to 12 mm steel, 8 mm stainless, and 20 mm aluminium. Materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass and specialist alloys.
FAQ
Do you provide tooling, inspection and traceability?
Yes. We have a in-house tooling department capable of producing the tooling necessary for dished ends. All dished ends are manufactured under our ISO 9001 certified managment and inspection system.
FAQ
What lead times and batch sizes do you support?
From one-offs and prototypes through to scheduled production runs. Lead time is driven mainly by tooling needs, material availability, and any finishing or inspection requirements.
